As fall approaches, so too does allergy season. For many of us, the lure of fall’s cooler weather and colorful leaves is dampened by itchy eyes, scratchy throats and runny noses. In this workshop we will learn about herbs that support our immune and respiratory systems throughout allergy season. If used preventatively for children and adults, herbs can help us remain symptom free or reduce the level of irritating symptoms should they occur.

For those interested in dogs and in service dogs, Author John Thomas Clark will be reading from and speaking about The Joy of Lex: Life With a Service Dog - his light-hearted romp recounting life with Lex, a black Lab.
Date: Sunday, September 13th
Time: 2:00 pm
Place: Barnes & Noble, 2614 Central Park Avenue, Yonkers
Beginning with Lexie’s being teamed with the author, and their schooling together at Canine Companions for Independence, the book then offers glimpses at their life together at home and shows how they interact with the outside world. Its vignettes, all accompanied by color photographs, describe life with the best service dog in the world: they reveal how Lex works – tugging off the author’s socks, opening a door, turning on a light, picking up the author’s dropped mouthstick, and more – tasks Lex was trained to perform. They even reveal how Lex performs tasks he was not trained to do, as when he saved the author from certain injury by righting the author’s wheelchair during a serious mishap. These poems also show how Lex plays and they demonstrate his marvelous personality. Sonnets in various forms, they are all straightforward; there is nothing deep in them except for the profound love the author has for this wonderful dog who brings so much joy to his life.

Join us at Belle Havana and enjoy a delicious
French-Cuban fusion brunch and a few mojitos while being enchanted by
Abby Dobson (http://www.reverbnation.com/abbydobson). If you were lucky to see Abby perform the first time, you know that you're in for a treat.
Some
singers need to be surrounded by a variety of equipment to move people,
but this powerful artist simply needs an audience. She is one of those
rare songbirds that effortlessly stimulate sensual, soulful and raw
emotions using just her vocal instrument, a voice that you don't just
hear, you feel it.
Having been influenced by the likes of
legendary soul and jazz powerhouses such as Sarah Vaughn, Anita Baker,
Donny Hathaway, Bill Withers, Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin, Abby
is not your typical artist who tries to woo a crowd with technical
acrobatics or lyrical clichés, but instead captures a crowd using
captivating melodies and emotionally charged words brought to life by
the ache and honey in her voice. Devoted to her craft, Abby has studied
classical voice since Junior High school. But it was the introduction
to Billie Holiday and Hathaway that taught Abby how to draw people
inside her in such a way that you feel her essence.
Abby's music is heart music.
Plus Special Guest Poet and Raffle Drawing !!!!!
The cost is $22 and includes Brunch and a complimentary glass of champagne or bloody mary (tax and gratuity not included).
Conveniently
located 2 blocks from the Metro North Yonkers Station and all buses
servicing the Yonkers downtown area and there is plenty of street
parking.
All of our previous shows have sold out so be sure to RSVP.

A Special Lecture Endowed in Memory of Prof. Bruce Byland
Rye boasts unique pre- historic resources including one of the top 12 important Paleo-Indian archaeological sites in New York State. In studying the Jay Property since 1982, archaeologists, including the late Prof. Byland, and Dr. Boesch have found compelling evidence of early tribal settlement, hunting and fishing patterns substantiated by numerous artifacts including quartz projectile points and decorated pottery shards.
Come see these magnificent specimens up close and learn what they tell us about pre-historic life in Rye. Dr. Boesch has been researching the Jay Property since 2006 conducting documentary research and archaeological investigations which uncovered evidence for the 18th century Jay home known as "The Locusts" and earlier Native American occupations on the property dating back at least 4,000 years. The late Bruce Byland was a revered member of the faculty of Lehman College of the City University of New York. In the New York area he worked with the Metropolitan Forensic Anthropology Team in the identification of the remains of Pierre Toussaint, since Beatified by the Catholic Church, and in the excavation of New York’s colonial African Cemetery. He was the catalyst for a multi-year archaeological study of the Boston Post Road Historic District, a National Historic Landmark, with the Jay Heritage Center. The exciting finds of this excavation are being prepared for future exhibit at the Jay site.

Off-Broadway Play, "The Castle," In Bronxville (4:30PM) “It is funny that civilians are afraid of ex-cons. Not as much as we are afraid of them.”
- Cast member Angel Ramos, The New York Times “The Castle,” an Off-Broadway play, comes to Bronxville, Sunday, September 27th at 4:30pm! This hour long eye opening production shares the challenges ex-offenders face once their debt to society is paid and the time has come to reintegrate into a now unfamiliar world. The cast of “The Castle,” three men and one woman, tell their life stories from childhood, crime, prison and homelessness to the joy of becoming tax payers. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear first hand the difficulties and fears our daily lives pose to those who have lived under lock and key. Their stories compellingly illustrate how choices last a lifetime. There will be a discussion with the cast immediately after followed by a brief reception.“Let me sum up part of my life,” says Cast member Kenneth Harrigan, the son of an intact family who turned down a college basketball scholarship to be a DJ. “I had a six-year drug spree which led to a four-year crime spree, ending in 16 years in prison, from 1988 to 2004.” - The New York TimesWe are working with local organizations such as police departments, churches, schools, colleges and universities and local officials and dignitaries throughout Westchester to share "The Castle's" powerful message with all members of society.
Tickets are available at a suggested donation of Adult $20, Senior/Student $12 and Family $50.
