Full Circle Family Care is offering a quick, painless, effective and FREE bone density screening using the Achilles Express. This sonographic test compares your bone quality to that of a “young adult” at peak bone strength and to people of your same age. This information, along with other factors, help doctors, nurse-midwives and nutritionists gauge your risk of osteoporosis fracture. Like other organs in the body, bones are constantly changing. Throughout childhood and as young adults, bones grow in strength and in size. Around the age of 30, bones reach their peak strength and then naturally become weaker with age. Osteoporosis is a condition where bones become weak to the point of breaking. Bone density scans provide information about your risk of bone fracture in the same way as cholesterol levels are used to measure risk of a heart attack. At Full Circle Family Care, we will educate you as to the most effective calcium supplements and how they should be taken, best calcium-rich foods, and best exercises to increase bone strength. Bring your calcium supplements to the screening and we will test them to see how well they are absorbed into the body. · 1:00pm—Dr Renu Lalwani, Internal Medicine, will discuss medical management of osteoporosis · 1:30pm—Judi Townsend, PA and Certified Fitness Instructor and Osteoporosis Specialist, will provide answers to questions on exercise for osteoporosis prevention · 2:00pm—Susan Blum, MD MPH, Nutritional Medicine, will speak about non-pharmaceutical approaches for osteoporosis and osteopenia. Osteoporosis is often called the “silent disease”. There are rarely signs until a lot of bone has been lost. A medical test that measures the amount of bone is the only way to detect osteoporosis. Call 914-421-1500 ext 0 for more information. Come in on Saturday, April 1st and take a step toward a healthy skeletal future.
