Inaugural Benefit Concert Features World-Renowned Jazz Musician/Composer David Amram with Shem's Disciples

Concert benefits the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function at Schnurmacher Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing. Celebrating the new partnership of Schnurmacher with IMNF, which brings to White Plains IMNF's international renown as a leader in clinical music therapy research, treatment and education.

Purpose: Funds raised through this concert will support expanded music therapy services and related research and education for patients at Schnurmacher Center. Music therapy can help alleviate pain, enhance memory, improve speech and communication, promote physical recovery, improve sleep, express feelings and enhance mood.
Artist Profiles:
David Amram has composed more than 100 works for orchestra and chamber music, and scores for Broadway, films, and operas. Mr. Amram plays jazz French horn, piano, flutes and whistles, percussion, and folkloric instruments and is an improvisational lyricist. He has collaborated with numerous artists, including Leonard Bernstein, Dizzy Gillespie, Langston Hughes, Dustin Hoffman, Thelonious Monk, Willie Nelson, and Arthur Miller.
Shem's Disciples is the brainchild of percussionist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, and music therapist at Schnurmacher, Marlon Sobol, accompanied by his brother Aaron, a clarinetist and hip-hop lyricist. The Sobol brothers have assembled a sizzling band and created a fusion of sound and culture that makes for an electrifying live experience.
