300 WAYS TO ENHANCE YOUR SEDER TOPIC AT GREENBURGH HEBREW CENTER ON APRIL 14TH
300 Ways to Enhance your Seder, a Meet the Author, Talk & Book Signing with Dr. Murray Spiegel & Rickey Stein, co-authors of 300 Ways to Ask the Four Questions: From Zulu to Abhkaz, will be presented by Sisterhood of Greenburgh Hebrew Center in Dobbs Ferry, NY, on Monday April 14 at 8:00 pm. The public is invited. Light refreshments will be served. The event is co-sponsored by the GHC Cultural Affairs Committee, Nursery and Religious School PTA's, the Rivertowns Jewish Consortium and Temple Beth Abraham of Tarrytown.
Dr. Murray Spiegel and Rickey Stein present the fascinating and humorous account of a 30-year project to obtain translations of the Seder's Four Questions from hundreds of people around the globe: Jews from Uganda to Uzbekistan, aboriginals in Australia, Eskimo Bishops, Maori from New Zealand, and experts of ancient languages. Their illustrated multimedia presentation includes a few of the more unusual translations, sampling images from their 120 countries of origin. They cover cultural nuggets from other lands, the Seder's history and unexpectedly exotic languages spoken by Jews and their melodic chants. This remarkable project has the largest number of languages for any Jewish ritual.
Make your Seder more entertaining and educational! Murray and Rickey share fun parodies, quizzes and games, and explains how this amazing book connects youngsters to their family's genealogy, current events and the world. In the Foreword, Theodore Bikel raves that he "takes great delight in this book." See Hieroglyphics from the time of the Exodus, hear languages spoken by just 6 people, enjoy how Shakespeare (or Donald Duck! … or a Klingon!!) would have said the Four Questions, “wave” them in authentic Hebrew Semaphore. With a passion for Judaism, Passover and language, speech researcher Dr. Murray Spiegel and pharmacist/language enthusiast Rickey Stein have reputations for innovative Seders; both were featured in The New York Times. Murray has led over 30 Seders – no two alike. His car even
carries the NJ license “Pesach.”
