Dobbs Ferry, NY -- Each spring kids in Westchester look forward to Family Fun Day, a day of entertainment and education that benefits people waiting to receive a canine partner from East Coast Assistance Dogs, Inc. (ECAD). This year, they’ll need to look a little farther south! After seven successful years in Chappaqua, the event is moving to Dobbs Ferry’s Waterfront Park, conveniently located by the Metro North train station on April 27, from noon until four. There is a suggested donation of $10.00 per family.
The event is not just fun; it’s fun with a purpose. It is a fundraiser to benefit East Coast Assistance Dogs, a program that helps people with disabilities by providing them with trained Service Dogs. It is also an opportunity to educate the public about Service Dogs, safety, and community service.
ECAD staff and student trainers will give Service Dog demonstrations throughout the day to show how the dogs help people with disabilities accomplish tasks of daily living.Attendees will rub shoulders with our trainers and instructors, younger Service Dogs in training, and experienced Service Dogs and their human partners. Although Service Dogs cannot be petted by the public, for those needing a “fur fix” there will be plenty of Therapy Dogs and even a Smooch-a-Pooch booth featuring two-month old puppies!
