Reverend Calvin Butts, Ph. D., Pastor, Abyssian Baptist Church in New York City, will be the guest speaker at Westchester Reform Temple in Scarsdale for the Temple’s Shabbat Service to commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. on Friday, January 13, 2006, 7:45 PM.
Dr. Butts is nationally known for his work promoting social justice, community building, and empowerment. A native New Yorker, Dr. Butts earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Morehouse College in the South. He returned to New York and earned a Master of Divinity Degree in Church History from Union Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry in Church and Public Policy from Drew University.
