Wrap Sling Class (11:00AM - 12:00PM)
Learn and explore the amazing parenting technique of babywearing, which has been practiced for centuries because of the many benefits to baby and parent, from bonding to hands-free carrying. Using a wrap style sling, you will learn the three basic holds for your child in a warm and supportive atmosphere. This class is appropriate for parents with a baby within their wrap sling’s weight limit or parents expecting a baby. Participants should bring a wrap sling and their baby. If you have a small baby, we also recommend bringing something to rest baby on occasionally while practicing (car seat or blanket, etc.). We also recommend bringing a doll or stuffed bear to practice with in addition to your baby or if you are expecting a baby. Non-constricting clothing recommended for both baby and parent. Please note that other sling styles (pouches, ring slings, etc.) are not covered in this class.

Enjoy a lighthearted program filled with magic and laughs for kids of all ages – and their moms too! Entertainment provided by Zippy the Clown, whose unique blend of skills and talents has been entertaining the young at heart since 1992.The program will take place on Wednesday, July 6, 2008, from 11 am – 1 pm (rain or shine) at Soundview Preparatory School, Yorktown Heights, NY. Bennett Academy of the Performing Arts has created a Summer Performing Arts program for ages 5-15. The Bennett Academy is located in downtown New Rochelle, NY.
The Renaissance Program is based on the innovative and new artistic ideas that came out of the Renaissance. This is a very informative educational art program, but we have made it fun, exciting, and sociable. The children will be learning all aspects of theater, music, singing, dance, visual arts and playwriting, just to name a few. We also work with your schedule; children can stay all day, or just take a few classes per week.
This one of a kind program starts July 7th and ends August 22nd. The children then have a showcase Weekend from August 23rd -August 24th, to show case everything that they learned at the program.
Classes are named after different themes of the Renaissance, and we have classes for all ages and levels.

Angela Calabrese Barton, Ph.D. and associate professor of teacher education at Michigan State University, will present “Where da Heat Go: Social Justice, Agency & Science,” as the annual Thomas H. Wright Lecture sponsored by Sarah Lawrence College’s Child Development Institute on July 7th at 4:30 p.m. at the Donnelley Theatre in the Heimbold Visual Arts Center. Prior to her position at MSU, Dr. Calabrese Barton was on the faculty at Teachers College, Columbia University for nine years. Barton’s professional awards and publications are numerous, and she currently holds two grants from the National Science Foundation to examine student learning and its intersection with participation and identity development inside and outside of school settings. She is also beginning a new project funded by the Spencer Foundation to examine teacher learning when elementary teachers and parents study science curricular materials together with the goal of adapting the materials to better support their students/children.

This annual event provides support for the Jane E. Lytle Memorial Aroretum in Croton on Hudson, NY. Highlights include:
Self directed auto tour of 6 local landscape settings in Croton and Cortlandt including a mixed perennial garden, formal lake estate, vegetable gardens and smallwer Village plots.
For the first time, the tour will include a tour of composer Aaron Copeland's House with plantings tended by master gardeners.
Tickets are $20 per person or 2 for $35 if purchased prior to the event. They will be $20 each on the day of the tour. Tour maps will be available at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church (6 Old Post Road, Croton) before the tour begins.
