Purchase College Mens Basketball Sweep Season Series
Bronxville, NY – The Concordia College Clippers men’s basketball team hosted Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Felician College February 1, 2012. With four players finishing in double figures for the Clippers, they swept the season series with the Golden Falcons after a 97-86 victory in the Meyer Athletic Center.
Following a three-point shot by Felician, Concordia went on a 10-0 run to take a 36-22 lead with 5:45 left in the period. The Clippers continued to add to the scoreboard down to the closing seconds of the half as they went into the locker room with a 49-36 lead.
In the second half, the Golden Falcons cut their deficit to single digits after a three-point play with 13:19 remaining in the game. Concordia responded with a 7-1 run to extend their lead as the Clippers held a 21 point lead, their largest of the game, with 6:22 left. With the game out of reach for Felician to make a comeback, Concordia looked to their bench to close out the game.
The Golden Falcons had a different idea on the ending of the game as they went on a 20-3 run to get within single digits. The Clippers had to work harder then they wanted to in the final moments as Felician began to foul Concordia. The team was able to sink their free throws and hold on for their seventh conference win of the season.
Gil led the Clippers with a game-high 26 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field. Gil also shot 9-of-11 from the foul line as he also recorded 10 rebounds for his 11th double-double of the season. Jason Alleyne (Bronx, NY) chipped in with 16 points and nine rebounds while Whitaker and Lavor Morris (Bronx, NY) scored 14 and 12 points, respectively, off the bench. As a team, Concordia shot 47.7% (31-of-65) from the field as they connected on seven three-point field goals.
