Annual Legislative Speak Out For Seniors
White Plains, NY - The impact of the proposed federal and state budgets for 2012-2013 on seniors will be the main topic at the annual Legislative Speak-Out and Breakfast on Jan. 27 at the Westchester County Center, 198 Central Ave., White Plains from 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Issues identified last fall in DSPS” Priority Pulse Survey - such as the need for transportation - will be discussed as well. The Speak-Out is co-sponsored by Westchester County’s Department of Senior Programs and Services, and in conjunction with County Legislator Bernice Spreckman (R-Yonkers).
Managed care organizations that serve Westchester County have also been invited to speak about this program and a DSPS coalition plans to sponsor a full session for providers this spring.
A calendar of senior programs scheduled for 2012 will be distributed, and comments will be welcome about what other health and wellness and educational activities and services are needed. This is important because the Westchester Public/Private Partnership for Aging Services is preparing an online “Sponsorship Opportunity” booklet that will be continuously updated and used to solicit financial support for needed programs.
In addition, the latest Elder Economic Security Standard Index for Westchester County will be distributed and advocates will learn how to collect data to validate or invalidate the findings. This initiative will move into high gear in the spring.
