Hospice Volunteer Inducted Into Senior Hall Of Fame
White Plains, NY - Lou Jaskow, a Rye resident and volunteer for Hospice & Palliative Care of Westchester (HPCW), was recently inducted in the Westchester County Senior Citizen Hall of Fame.
Lou’s six years of volunteer efforts along with his wife Ruth (2008 Senior Hall of Fame inductee) have resulted in friendships with several patients as well as their families and friends. HPCW volunteers are specially trained to provide comfort, support and companionship to patients and their families. They also assist with office administrative support, community outreach and fundraising events, and offer pet assisted therapy for those who request that program. Other programs in which HPCW volunteers are involved include Flowers for Life and Portraits of Love.
According to Mary Jane Schaumann, Director of Volunteer Services for HPCW, Lou is an extraordinary individual. “Throughout the course of his volunteer efforts at HPCW, Lou has continuously made a difference in the lives of patients and their families.” Schaumann said.
“When Ruth and I visit Hospice patients – whether talking, laughing, crying or just simply sitting with them – we’re not only helping them, they’re also helping us,” said Jaskow. “Sharing stories, memories and thoughts sheds a positive light on the day. It’s inspiring and reassuring to watch people look past their struggle and enjoy their time with us.”
