Online Language Learning Available At Scarsdale Library
Scarsdale, NY - The Scarsdale Public Library now offers three online language learning tools for children and adults.
All are available at no cost to Scarsdale library patrons and can be easily accessed via the library’s website.
Whether users want to become multilingual, or just need to pick up a few key phrases for their next trip abroad, the Mango Language program available through the Library is perfect. With more than 50 different languages for adults to choose from, and English as a Second Language courses, Mango is convenient, fun and easy to use.
Scarsdale kids can join the millions worldwide who have learned a second language using MUZZY, the British Broadcasting Corporations’ Language Course for Children. At an age when it’s easiest for them to learn, MUZZY surrounds kids with visual, aural and contextual language, employing a natural immersion approach, modeled on the way we all learn our first language.
For those who want to learn American Sign Language (ASL), the Scarsdale Library offers the ultimate online learning assistant. Signing Savvy is a sign language dictionary containing several thousand high-resolution videos of ASL signs, fingerspelled words, and other common signs used within the United States and Canada. Users can view large sign videos, build their own word lists and share them with others, create virtual flash cards and quizzes, print signs, build sign phrases, and more.
“Promoting lifelong learning is part of our mission,” explains Scarsdale Library Executive Director Elizabeth Bermel. “The opportunity to learn another language, or sign language, at no cost, utilizing the nation’s best software and technology, is a tremendous benefit to patronage of our library.”
