CELF Summer Sustainability Workshop Announced
Chappaqua, NY - The Children's Environmental Literacy Foundation (CELF) announced that a limited number of spaces are available for elementary, middle school and high school educators at its annual summer workshop, the CELF 2012 Summer Institute: Education for Sustainability.
Institute registrants currently represent a wide variety of private and public schools from the Westchester County, NY and Fairfield County, CT regions. Additionally, for the first time the program will include international participation, with an academic supervisor and moral sciences teacher from a United Arab Emirates private school enrolled to participate.
Speaking to the content of the program Chris DeMattia, a past CELF Summer Institute participant and chemistry teacher at Fox Lane High School in Bedford, NY stated, "As a teacher I demand that any summer work I do to be fun, refreshing and worthwhile and the CELF Summer Institute was just that."
He continued, "My experience at the Institute enabled me to help students connect to the content by framing student learning with real, local environmental problems that impact them directly. The program was designed so that I had time to create new -- or reframed -- exciting lessons, projects, or units with high-quality support and feedback from the Institute instructors."
Generously supported by Con Edison, private foundations and individual donors, the Institute has provided professional development and curriculum design support for hundreds of teachers. CELF Summer Institute participants are eligible for in-service credits, or graduate credits from the Manhattanville College School of Education.
Pricing for the 3-day program is $395 per teacher, with the fourth optional day priced at $55. For groups of 3 or more group discount pricing is available at $325 per day per person for the 3-day program and $350 per person for the 4-day program. Additionally, a limited number of scholarships are available. For more information and/or to register, go to www.celfeducation.org or call 914-238-4753.
