The Board unanimously approved Ross’ appointment on January 10. His term will expire on June 30, 2012. He will retain his position as Woodlands High School Principal. A search for a long-term candidate for superintendent is continuing.
Ross was appointed principal in 2009. Ross also served as principal of the Hempstead High School (1996-98), during which time it was removed from the state list of underperforming schools, after more than seven years on the list.
In addition, Ross was responsible for creating Unity High School in Manhattan, a new alternative high school, which became a leading model for working with underachieving students.
