Cortlandt Manor, NY - Hudson Valley Hospital Center (HVHC) presented its first “Community Woman of the Year” award at its 12th Annual Women’s Symposium on November 3 at the Chalet on the Hudson Cold Spring.Chereese Jervis-Hill, president of Events to Remember, was presented with the award during a daylong program dedicated to improving the health and well being of women.
Recognized by the Westchester Business Council as one of Westchester’s 40 under 40 Rising Stars, Jervis-Hill of Cortlandt Manor founded Events to Remember, a boutique event planning company, in 2004. She has donated her time and energy to many causes including the Foundation of Hudson Valley Hospital Center, Support Connection and the Gateway and Yorktown Chambers of Commerce.
This year’s symposium theme, “It’s a Give and Take World,” focused on how women can make connections and enrich their lives through the acts of giving and receiving.
The event was led by WHUD’s Kacey Morabito Grean and featured keynote speaker Carla Goldstein, JD, Omega Institute's Chief External Affairs Officer and Director of the Omega Institute's Women's Leadership Center. An attorney with 25 years experience in public interest advocacy, Goldstein spoke about how the historical role of women as caregivers has made it difficult for them to say no and to focus on their own needs and how that is necessary if they are to replenish their energy to be able to care for themselves and their families.
A panel discussion with Nicole Shendlin of Larchmont, executive director of Her Honor Mentoring program, and women who served as both mentors and mentees looked at how the program has enriched the lives of both prominent women and at-risk girls. Lindsay Aarstad, a physician’s assistant at HVHC and Dr. R. Michael Koch of the New York Group for Plastic Surgery spoke about their volunteer work providing medical care in third world countries including Africa and Vietnam.
The day also featured yoga with Patty Holmes of the Yoga Garden and an astrology presentation by Demitra Vassiliadis of Heaven to Earth Astrology.
