Westchester Community College Presents Multimedia Folk Concert
Valhalla, NY - Westchester Community College in its Blockbuster Series presents Linda Smith in a multimedia folk concert, called Tragedy to Triumph-The Story of Artemisia.
This Spring Blockbuster performance will take place on Saturday, March 23, at 8:00 pm in the Academic Arts Theatre on the Valhalla campus at Westchester Community College.
In this enchanting evening of art and song, discover Artemisia Gentileschi (1593-1652), the first recognized female painter in the world of post-Renaissance art. Fascinated by her life, Tragedy to Triumph-The Story of Artemisia is Linda's first multi-media conceptual piece. The artist's life, aspirations and masterpieces are captured through glorious folk music, haunting vocalized harmonies and visual art projections. Ms. Smith, a Chicago-based classically trained folk singer and songwriter, performs this inspirational show in a quintet format with piano, guitar, bass, violin, flute, drums and vocals, while projecting images of Artemisia's paintings.
Linda Smith’s first conceptual piece tells the story of this overlooked female Renaissance artist extraordinaire. The artist’s work is captured through music and visual representations. Artemisia’s tragedy to triumph remains relevant to the lives of women today. Romantic, soulful, earthy and mystical, Smith has been compared to Natalie Merchant, Jewel and the Indigo Girls as she blends folk with rock. "I like to think of my music as part of the chain that encourages us all to be warriors, like Artemisia had to be, through adversity."
Single tickets for Linda Smith in “Artemisia.. Tragedy to Triump” is $24 (general admission), $22 (for students/seniors/Fac-Staff), $18 (children under 13).
