Summer Piano With Pete Malinverni At Purchase College
Purchase, NY - Nothing takes the edge off a hot summer evening like cool jazz. This July 12, Purchase College, SUNY will present SummerPiano, featuring Pete Malinverni, a mainstay on the New York City and world jazz performance and recording scenes.
"SummerPiano provides a special opportunity for the Westchester community to experience the great musical talent at Purchase College," says Suzanne Farrin, director of the college's Conservatory of Music. "Based on the overwhelming popularity of past concerts, we plan to continue offering free piano performances throughout the fall and spring."
Since he came to New York in 1981, Malinverni has made a mark for himself in live and recorded performances at Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, the Village Vanguard and the Blue Note, and has toured in North and South America, Europe and Japan.
Malinverni served as Minister of Music at the Devoe Street Baptist Church in Brooklyn, NY from 1992-2010. He is the pianist/conductor of the Westchester Reform Temple in Scarsdale, NY and music director of the Pound Ridge Community Church. Malinverni has served as professor on the Jazz faculties of New York University (NYU), William Paterson University, and taught Jazz Appreciation to non-music majors at NYU. NYU’s Continuing Professional Studies Program honored him with the Marc Crawford Jazz Educator Award, and he has successfully presented seminars and master classes in the U. S. and abroad. He also writes about music for publications worldwide and is a contributor to liner notes for his and many other recordings.
SummerPiano is made possible by a generous contribution from Marion Levy.
The July 12 program is free and open to the public, and will be held from 8 to 10 pm at the Music Conservatory Recital Hall at Purchase College, SUNY, 735 Anderson Hill Road, Purchase, NY. For further information, please call (914) 251-6700 or visit purchase.edu.
