Upcoming Outdoor Movie At Rye Town Park
Rye, NY - The Friends of Rye Town Park (FRTP) is presenting the family classic, “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial”, on Thursday, July 12th, beginning at approximately 8:30 pm. The event will be held outdoors, on the “great lawn” at Rye Town Park.2012 marks the 30th anniversary of the film’s opening, in June of 1982. It tells the story of Elliott, a lonely boy who befriends an extraterrestrial, dubbed "E.T.", who is stranded on Earth. Elliott and his siblings help the extraterrestrial return home while attempting to keep it hidden from their mother and the government. “E.T.” held the global record for gross ticket sales revenue until it was usurped by Jurassic Park—another Spielberg directed film—in 1993. It was nominated for 9 Oscars.
Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Carpet Trends of Rye, admission to the movie is free. There will be a reduced parking rate of $2 after 6:00 pm. People living close to the park are encouraged to walk.
So, as FRTP board member Ann Moller said in announcing the event, “We hope everyone will bring their beach chairs and a picnic dinner and enjoy this event with family and friends.”
Perhaps they should bring “Reese’s Pieces” as well, just in case…
In the event of bad weather, the rain date will be the following Thursday, July 19th. For further information, visit the Friends of Rye Town Park web site: http://friendsofrtp.org/ Or, people can call the park at 967-0965.
