Valhalla, NY - Westchester Community College hosts Grand Dérangement (Acadian music and step-dance) on Saturday, February 18 at 8:00 p.m. in the Academic Arts Theatre.

From the shores of Nova Scotia, Canada’s Grand Dérangement refers to the expulsion of the Acadians in 1755, but the name also alludes to the group wanting “to rouse” audiences. The bow fires up the fiddle and the sparks fly when this band ignites the stage.  In an all-out explosion of lights, sound, contagious rhythms and amazing step-dancing, these young, musical hipsters create an electrifying dimension of excitement. Foot-thumping, hand-clapping and dancing in the aisles guaranteed.

The group is eclectic in its musical approach, fusing various sources of inspiration including French music, Celtic music, rock, folk, and Broadway musicals. The rhythms in the compositions of Daniel LeBlanc (guitar, violin) and Briand Melanson (drums, percussion) are frenzied, and the dancers are quite captivating.
