James Von Carter Art At Greenburgh Public Library
Elmsford, NY - The Greenburgh Public library is pleased to present an exhibit of unique art by James Von Carter.
Mr. Carter discovered his artistic talent while attending elementary school. His teachers recognized his “gift” of art as shown in his many “doodlings” on his class work. Many of his “early etchings” could be found in the margins of his test papers. Class projects and talent shows also provided the first of many platforms for Mr. Carter to share his gift.
James Von Carter subsequently became a mentor in the supplemental education program for youth in New York City called “I Have a Dream”. This led to a program that provided travel to art programs at various colleges, art galleries, and museums. It was at this time that he was able to share his love of art with his students. His hope was to instill in them a true appreciation of art. Mr. Carter’s passion for art continues to this day and it is his greatest joy to be able to share his artistic experience with others.
Without previous professional training he pursues his love of art through various mediums. Being self-taught he has an unencumbered approach in the expressing of his visions, values and views of life. His attention to detail is shown in a multi-faceted display of mediums; whether it is oils, acrylic, watercolor, charcoal, pastels or pencil. The artworks on display in this exhibit readily display the variety and freedom of expression that is inherent in his style.
At times, his artwork exhibits the serious side of life, as depicted in his painting entitled “Struggle”. At other times, his work depicts true joy as shown in his noted work, “Father and Son”, an artistic interpretation of the joy a father feels at the birth of a son. His appreciation of the human form is shown in his work entitled “Motion”, and also in the free flowing form of a ballerina in his painting, “Freedom of Movement”. No less important is the capturing of facial expressions which depicts the inner soul of the human elements as in the works entitled, “Eyes of Africa”, and “Age”.
James Von Carter is one who is restless to express life in all its splendor. It is his greatest desire to share his visions with people from all walks of life through the realm of his art. The exhibit is on display from Monday, June 19 through Friday, July 30, in the Howard and Ruth Jacobs Family Gallery at the Greenburgh Public Library, located at 300 Tarrytown Road, Elmsford, NY. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
There will be an artist’s reception from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 29. The reception is also free and open to the public. Everyone is invited to attend. Mr. Carter was born in Harlem and currently resides in Cortlandt Manor in the Hudson Valley of Westchester County.
