Letter To The Editor: Honorable Mayor Amicone,
I have been a resident of Yonkers, NY for approximately 2 years. Today youth violence continues to grow at an alarming rate. Specifically, Saratoga Ave and Lawrance Street. Why should we the "WORKING CLASS" of these residences whom respect the law and teach our children to respect others as well must continue to under go the sleepless night wondering if your child will be attacked by youth gang members, or drugs introduced to them, or your private property be vandalized.
I come to you because I know you will take charge of this situation. I have trust in you.
Their have been many occasion that I have had to step outside of my residence at 2am or 4am to talk with teenagers sometime of less age and ask what are you doing out here at this time. I have posted signs and letter on mail boxes expressing to parents to teach their children respect. But to no avail. Violence and destruction of property continues. I have contacted the Yonkers Police in several occasion to try to deal with many situation but most of the time they don't even show.
Today was the last straw that broke the camels back. I had a box of food that I was going to donate to the local shelter. I placed the box of food on the back of my pick up truck went upstairs to my apartment for ten minutes and return to find four kids vandalizing my vehicle throwing all the food like animals all over the streets. I immediately contacted Yonkers Police whom arrived and tried to diffuse the situation. Bottom line the Police officers just had a talk with the child's mother whom continuously denied her son had anything to do with the vandalism. Why couldn't the police at least give the mother a citation or the child. This only gives power to these unruly kids, makes the street violence to continue and even worst makes Children 18 and under think they are above the law.
Please Help Now.....
