Letter to the Editor: As a member of the New York State Assembly - one of the 212 individuals whose member items, campaign donations, and legislation are being tracked by a new website, Project Sunlight - I say BRAVO!
The effort by Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, led by Blair Horner, is exactly the kind of transparency needed in Albany, giving citizens the chance to evaluate what elected representatives are doing - or not doing - in a comprehensive way. As a fighter for governmental openness as a former City Councilman, County Legislator and Chairman of the Westchester County Board of Legislators, no one legislator, however well-meaning, could create such a complete effort. I've released my own member item lists for public scrutiny in the past, but unless it is done in an easy, accessible for all of us, such individual openness gains little attention.
Project Sunlight is a big step in the right direction in the reform of Albany.
