 White Plains, NY - A new express route between downtown Yonkers and the Westchester Community College is one of several changes to Westchester County’s Bee-Line bus system starting Tuesday, September 2.
The changes are needed to handle the increase in ridership since the introduction of MetroCard on Bee-Line buses last year.
“The new Route 1X ‘Super Express’ will begin at the W. 242nd Street subway station in the Bronx and pick passengers up along South Broadway and Getty Square in Yonkers before going express to the Westchester Community College campus in Valhalla,” said county Transportation Commissioner Lawrence C. Sally. “By doing it this way, we will take 30 minutes off the usual travel time by bus between downtown Yonkers and the community college.”
Just like Route 43 that started “Super Express” service last year between downtown Mount Vernon and the Westchester Medical Center, Route 1X will get on the Sprain Brook Parkway for a faster trip.
Among the other changes starting on Tuesday are:
More frequent weekday rush hour service in both the morning and afternoon on Route 4.
A new weekday evening trip on Route 43 between the Westchester Medical Center and Mount Vernon.
New weekday afternoon bi-directional service on Shuttle Loop A between downtown White Plains and Fordham University’s new site at 400 Westchester Avenue in Harrison.
Due to declining ridership, evening service on Route 12 as well as the 7:16p.m. trip on Route 10 between the Croton-Harmon Railroad Station and Cortlandt will be discontinued.
