Mt. Kisco, NY - Show who you are and what you can do in front of top college recruiters during the second annual Slam Dunk Showcase for High School Boys on Wednesday, October 7, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., at the Westchester County Center in White Plains.
The Slam Dunk Showcase gives rising players who are interested in playing ball at the college level the unique opportunity to showcase their basketball skills with elite competition among their peers during the National College Athletic Association (NCAA) “live” period for college recruiters from Division II and Division III schools.
The showcase will feature 90 players, with each athlete playing on a team of 10 players or less. Each team will be headed up by top area varsity high school coaches. Games will be 22 minutes in length, with each player guaranteed 50% playing time. As an added bonus, each player will receive five minutes of instruction with a shooting coach at various stations during the showcase. College recruiters in attendance will receive athlete profile information packets for all players competing in the tournament.
The showcase is open to all high school boys who are juniors or seniors by September 2009. Fee for the Slam Dunk Showcase is $100 per player, which includes a tournament jersey. Pre-registration is recommended, and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Last year’s event sold out quickly, so players are advised to register early.
If available, walk-up registration will also be accepted on the day of the event from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
An advance registration application can be printed at www.countycenter.biz. To receive an application by mail or for more information about the showcase, call Kevin Cook at (914) 864-7064.
Spectators are welcome; tickets are $3 and will be available at the box office on the day of the event.
The Slam Dunk Showcase is sponsored by Westchester County Parks and The Journal News VarsityCentral.
Parking at the County Center is $4. The County Center is accessible to the disabled.
The Westchester County Center is located at 198 Central Avenue in White Plains at the Bronx River Parkway and Tarrytown Road. The County Center is also accessible via the Westchester County BEE-LINE bus system. For a bus schedule, visit www.westchestergov.com/beelinebus or call (914) 813-7777.
