Mamaroneck, NY - Since 1994, Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day has provided hours of enjoyment for members of One Love Tennis, Inc. as well as my students from the inner city of the Bronx, NY.
However, each year free tickets are made available to this targeted population which needs to see the mythical Arthur Ashe Stadium as well as tennis at its best. The ability to see the tennis pros in action is exactly what helps create new dreams for the children who need it the most.
One Love Tennis, Inc. provides free tennis to children from ages 5 to 14 on the pristine Lake Street courts of Del Fino in White Plains, NY. I am sure it was Arthur Ashes’ dream to get all kids into the game: a game that was formerly restrictive and non-inclusive of minorities and the poor. And what better way is there to get minority and disadvantaged children into the game but to democratize all aspects of tennis thus leveling the playing field in our great land, America?
Tennis provides children with the structure and discipline the game affords. And although" One Love Tennis, Inc." alumni may not be tennis pros today, but they are in college en route to great things. They have the tenacity to excel. They will excel.
One Love Tennis, Inc. applauds the support of The White Plains Recreation and Parks Department and the continuous efforts of Sandy Hoffman of the USTA/Eastern and Matt Hanson,WPRP.
Please keep the dream alive. Support the free tennis programs which need it the most. Keep the dream of Arthur Ashe alive. This is my prayer. Phyllis C. Murray
