North Salem, NY - Old Salem Farm has a long, cherished history of hosting elite horse shows for the nation’s premier horses and riders. The tradition continues as some of the nation’s top horses and riders return to compete at the Old Salem Farm Spring Horse Shows, May 5-10 and 12-17, at Old Salem Farm in North Salem, NY.
Those expected to compete include Olympic veterans such as two-time Gold Medalist McLain Ward of Brewster, NY. Ward recently finished in second at the Rolex FEI World Cup Finals in Las Vegas. It was the most dramatic and exciting World Cup Final in history, as Ward was narrowly edged out of the win by Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum of Germany. Ward also had great success at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL, where he won the three largest purses of the year over the span of the twelve week horse show event.
Also expected to compete is Olympic Veteran Chris Kappler. Kappler earned a Team Gold and Individual Silver Medals at the Athens Olympic Games in 2004, as well as Team Gold and Individual Silver at the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in 2003.
Visitors should also look for Olympic Team Gold and Silver Medalist and 1986 World Cup Final Champion, Leslie Burr Howard; Olympic Individual Bronze Medalist and winner of the 1983 World Cup Final, Norman Dello Joio; and Olympic veteran, Nona Garson.
Also among the top riders expected to compete at the 2009 Old Salem Farm Spring Horse Shows are World Cup veteran Peter Lutz; Nation’s Cup Champions Jeffery Welles and Darragh Kerins, and Nation’s Cup veteran Callan Solem.
