Dobbs Ferry, NY - The American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging has named St. Cabrini Nursing Home Director of Nursing Velma Haye, RNC, BC, BS, BSN, MA, to its Leadership AAHSA fellowship program, Class of 2009.
The New City resident is one of just 35 emerging leaders in aging services nationwide chosen for the initiative designed to enhance the skills and boost the ranks of the professional field across the continuum of care.
The year-long learning experience will help accelerate the leadership development of the Fellows through a curriculum focused on leadership theory, professional advancement, and development of innovative and person-centered approaches to serving the aging. Recognized experts, managers and authors across the continuum of care will lead the program, which will kick off at the annual AAHSA Conference in Philadelphia next month (October).
Ms. Haye, with 22 years of experience in both nursing and business, came to SCNH as Education Coordinator in 2000, soon advanced to Director of Education. And became Director of Nursing in 2003.
“To be chosen for this program is an opportunity that I consider to be of the highest honor,” said Ms. Haye. “I look forward to honing the skills necessary to become a transformational leader and empower my commitment to aging services.’”
Ms. Haye earned a Master's degree in Nursing Education and a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from New York University, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Business Marketing and Administration from St. Francis College, Brooklyn. She is Board Certified in Gerontological Nursing. At St. Cabrini she overseeis some 300 employees, including RN’s, LPN’s, Certified Nursing Assistants, Nursing Supervisors, Nurse Managers, MDS (Minimum Data Set) and Infection Control Nurses and Transporters at the 304-bed non-profit skilled nursing facility. Before joining St. Cabrini,, she held Head Nurse and Resident Care Coordinator positions at Jewish Home and Hospital, New York City.
