Senior Citizens Outing At Glen Island June 11th

Westchester Senior NewsNew Rochelle, NY - Senior citizens can bring their fishing poles and picnic baskets to relax and socialize at the Glen Island Outing for Seniors on Wednesday, June 10, at Glen Island Park in New Rochelle.

The annual outing at one of the county’s most scenic parks will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Admission is free, and no reservations are required. Parking is free for those with a county senior citizen park pass or a senior citizen identification card. Rain date is June 11.

Everyone can enjoy their own picnic lunch, and the park’s permanent grills will be available for barbecuing. No portable grills may be brought into the park. The concession stand will sell hamburgers and franks. Seniors who bring their own gear can fish off the park’s shoreline in Long Island Sound.

Entertainment kicks off with DJ music beginning at 10 a.m. At 11 a.m., instructor Angela Hultberg will present a spirited demonstration of Zumba, the latest dance-fitness craze and all invited to join the fun.  Fit seniors can also have fun playing the interactive video games on the Wii game system throughout the day. From noon to 2 p.m., the Anthony Michaels band will perform popular favorites and classic hits.

The outing is sponsored by Westchester County’s departments of Parks and Senior Programs and Services.

Glen Island Park is located on Weyman Avenue in New Rochelle.  It can be reached via the New England Thruway (I-95) north or south to exit 15 (Route 1). From I-95 North, make a right onto Route 1 (Boston Post Road) and from I-95 South, make a left onto Route 1. Make a right at the light at the Weyman Avenue intersection and follow Weyman Avenue into the park.
