Westchester Senior NewsWhite Plains, NY - Family members caring for older relatives and friends will find a wealth of information to help them with that challenging task - including details about services and resources in Westchester County -  at the Caregiver Resource Fair on Oct. 2 in New Rochelle.

Caregivers will be able to talk with professionals in the aging field during the event, which will take place at the Low-Savin Residence/Soundview Apartments, 40 Willow Drive from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Information will be available on many topics, including Alzheimer’s, elder law, respite, support groups, adult day care and mental health.

Keynote speaker Barbara Silverstone, co-author of “You and Your Aging Parents:  A Family Guide to Emotional, Social, Health & Financial Problems,” will deliver her talk at 6 p.m.

The fair is co-sponsored by the Caregiver Resource Coalition of the Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services (DSPS) and Willow Towers Assisted Living. The event is free and open to the public but those planning to attend should call (914)-636-6565, Ext. 101.

A light supper will be served, and parking will be available at Willow Towers, 355 Pelham Road, New Rochelle.

DSPS Commissioner Mae Carpenter, who will speak at the event, said Westchester County offers many resources to help caregivers with the big responsibilities they face.

“It’s a loving but often difficult job to care for an older person day in and day out,” Carpenter said. “The job entails physical and emotional demands and sacrifice. But programs such as this Resource Fair offer ways caregivers can help themselves and realize that they are not alone.”
