Dobbs Ferry, NY - —St. Cabrini Nursing Home will honor Al and Dee Delbello, of Waccubuc; PsychAssociates Group Co-Directors, Eric Garfinkel, Ph.D, Manhattan and Eric Redlener, Ph.D, New Rochelle; and SCNH volunteer Angelica Granados, of White Plains, at its 2008 Sharing in Mission Award Dinner, Wednesday, May 7 at Tappan Hill, Tarrytown.
Honorees are chosen for the way they carry out the Mission Statement of the Home, which calls on individuals to be leaders, educators, advocates and sponsors of quality services to those in need of care and compassion. Former Westchester County Executive and NYS Lieutenant Governor Al Delbello and his wife, Westfair Communications Inc Publisher Dee DelBello, have a distinguished record of leadership in community and public service and business, individually and as a couple.
At Westchester’s helm from 1974-83, Mr. DelBello drew national attention for bringing professional management to government and enhancing services while reducing taxes. Among his many accomplishments were the nation’s first countywide waste management system, Westchester Medical Center, and pioneering offices for the aging and other groups. He is a founding partner of the White Plains law firm, DelBello, Donnellan, Weingarten, Wise and, Wiederkehr, LLP, White Plains, and is Chairman of the Westchester County Association. The former Yonkers mayor has earned many honors and served on a variety of public and private boards.
Dee DelBello has also been honored by many organizations, including March of Dimes, Family Service of Westchester, and Women in Communications. She served 17 years as Commissioner of the NYS Judicial Conduct Commission for which she received the Samuel Dubroff Award. . After buying a failing business in 1980, the recent Westchester Business Hall of Fame inductee transformed it into the now thriving Westchester and Fairfield business journals and Generations pub lications. Her professional background also includes work as Regional Public Relations Director of Bloomingdale’s, an administrator at two universities, and a teacher.
A keen intellect combined with a personal commitment to St. Cabrini’s residents mark the volunteer service of Angelica Granados. Retired from IBM where she oversaw Far East business development, Ms. Granados has contributed invaluable research and analytical skills to SCNH Fund Development Office efforts. The priority for this former ATT Bell Lans Systems Analyst, however, is her one-on-one work with residents, and she volunteers many hours in the Home’s Pastoral Care, Recreation, and Admissions departments. Ms. Granados has also shared her insights on behalf of Save Our Streets in her native Philippines, a program run by SCNH sponsor, The Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
PsychAssociates Group, co-founded by Drs. Garfinkel and Redlener, is a nationally recognized innovator in developing and integrating state-of-the art psychological services into medical, educational, corporate and educational organizations. The model they created for providing mental health care in nursing homes has greatly enhanced quality of life for residents of the 30 facilities served by the 70-psychologist firm. Their commitment to meeting behavioral health needs regardless of ability to pay spans varied populations, including HIV patients, domestic violence victims, and those impacted by 9-11. They co-founded and-direct Early Childhood Associates, for developmentally
delayed infants and toddlers and have partnered with the Children’s Health Fund.
Dr. Garfinkel is a leading mental health care advocate on both State and Federal levels and recipient of the Karl F. Heiser American Psychological Association (APA) Presidential Award in 2003. He is a Consultant to the APA Committee on Aging, Treasurer, NYS Psychological Association (NYSPA); and serves on APA’s Medicare Task Force. He has expertise in geriatric psychology and family therapy.
Dr. Redlener, who specializes in geriatric psychology, bereavement and behavior management, has served on the clinical faculty of NYU Medical School since 1993. He was appointed to the NYS Mental Health Planning Advisory Council by Governor Pataki. Dr. Redlener and his partner, Dr. Garfinkel. have given dozens of presentations to numerous professional and public organizations.
The two psychologists are also strong supporters of St. Philips Mission, Swaziland, which runs a hostel for AIDS orphans and health, education, and agriculture efforts.
St. Cabrini Nursing Home is a not-for-profit, 304-bed ”Quality First” skilled nursing facility which also includes St. Cabrini Home Health Care; St. Cabrini Short-Term Stay Respite Program; Msgr. Terence Attridge Adult Day Health Center, Cabrini Care at Home, and Cabrini Immigrant Services. Opened in 1973, the home is sponsored by the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and part of a long tradition of caring for the elderly and chronically ill.
