Yonkers, NY- Sarah Lawrence College offers high school students intensive programs of study this summer with small classes and a supportive, non-competitive environment. Students in every class will have individual conferences with their instructor, a distinguishing component of the Sarah Lawrence College approach to education.
Three-week day-long courses in theatre, music and the visual arts and a three-week program on the literature and history, theatre, and science of New York City run from July 13 to August 2. A six-week filmmaking course, which includes instruction in writing for the screen, directing, production, and post-production, is offered through a collaboration with the International Film Institute of New York, and runs from June 22 to August 2.
A residential component for these courses is available; students are supervised in the evening and on weekends by Residential Counselors who organize on campus activities as well as trips to New York City and the surrounding area.
Evening, non-residential classes include courses in essay and fiction writing (two sections), poetry, science, and screenwriting. They will be held Monday and Thursday evenings, July 14-31.
Many regular Sarah Lawrence College faculty members will be teaching the summer high school programs. The registration deadline is Friday, June 20, 2008 for all programs. Call Liz Irmiter at (914) 395-2693 for more information or visit www.sarahlawrence.edu/high-school
