Westchester School & Education NewsWhite Plains, NY - Students from ten schools across Westchester County will have the “boardroom” experience through a program provided by the executives of Zoomnia.com, a website that offers consumers advice and answers from top local experts in Westchester County.

The Challenge
Over the course of four weeks, student teams will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in business consulting as part of the From the Classroom to the Community Program.

The program, which launched February 4, requires teams to develop strategies to transform Zoomnia from a local business to a national craze by analyzing Zoomnia’s current situation relative to the demands of its market, and brainstorming creative real world solutions and growth plans. While students work on a growing local company, they will learn skills that will serve them well as they enter college, compete for jobs, and tackle challenges throughout their lives.

While no one will hear the infamous phrase “You’re Fired,” student teams will present their findings to a panel of business experts from Zoomnia and from ZS Associates, one of the world’s leading sales and marketing consulting firms. Together, Zoomnia and ZS Associates will coach and guide all participating teams throughout the program, using a structured “hypothesis based” approach to problem solving, used by top strategists in the corporate world. An awards ceremony will follow the presentations. All teams will also receive written feedback on their presentations.

Community Involvement
“The team at Zoomnia is passionate about local communities,” said Steven Wolk, Zoomnia co-founder and CEO. “This program is another way for us to serve our community.”

Zoomnia.com is an online meeting place where consumers connect with local businesses that have expertise in what they are seeking. Their growing network of 1,300 local specialists provides answers to queries ranging from finding a pre-screened electrician to seeking advice from local attorneys. Zoomnia management is composed of people who have developed strategies for Fortune 500 firms, turned around ailing companies, and started successful companies, among other accomplishments.

“It is gratifying to be part of a program that offers a practical educational experience for the students of Westchester County,” said Angela Bakker Lee, a Principal with ZS Associates and consulting project lead. “This program will provide students with a challenging, hands-on opportunity while they are still in high school.”

From the Classroom to the Community promises to reflect the creativity of a diverse student base with participating high schools hailing from all corners of the county, including: Fox Lane High School (Bedford), Bronxville High School (Bronxville), Hendrick Hudson High School (Montrose), New Rochelle High School (New Rochelle), North Salem Middle/High School (North Salem), Roosevelt High School (Yonkers), SW BOCES Alternative High School (Valhalla), Byram Hills High School (Armonk), Sleepy Hollow High School (Sleepy Hollow), and Blind Brook High School (Rye Brook).
