Purchase College Presents Lecture With Fo Wilson |

 Purchase, NY - The Purchase College School of Art+Design presents a lecture by furniture designer Fo Wilson, the Spring 2008 Artist-in-Residence, January 24 at 6:30 PM in the Richard & Dolly Maass Gallery.
Using the language of furniture, artist and designer Fo Wilson engages and investigates ideas around identity, culture and the human experience. Her African-American inspired work draws attention to the literal and symbolic nuances of language, space and furniture in the African-American culture.
Ms. Wilson received her MFA from Rhode Island School of Design in Furniture Design. She recently completed a residency at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center and is currently on the faculty at Rhode Island School of Design. Her work has been published in the International Review of African American Art and is included in the collection of the National Museum of Design.
The School of Art+Design’s artist-in-residence program in applied design hosts established makers of exceptional talent, who develop a body of work while participating in the education of Purchase students and in the life of the larger Purchase community. The program expands upon the conservatory environment and collaborative atmosphere that is the cornerstone of the Purchase educational experience. It provides students with the opportunity to observe an artist at work and to engage in dialogue with the artist in both studio and classroom. Through public lectures, workshops and exhibitions, the artist-in-residence program is a public resource center for the exchange and exploration of ideas relative to the contemporary cultural and social environment.
