White Plains, NY - After nearly tripling its enrollment since its first session in 2007, Pace Law School’s New Directions program to prepare lawyers for a return to the workforce after time away is adding a second session.
The sessions will run in the winter and spring, from January 26 to July 3, and July 13 to December 18. The application deadline is January 5 for the first session and June 15 for the second session.
The bridge program, including a 10-week externship, gives lawyers the substantive law updates, refreshed professional skills, and practical experience they need to return to the legal workforce.
The program is designed for attorneys who have taken a leave from practice, or who have never practiced law. Those individuals that would like to reenter the practice of law or pursue an alternative legal career would also benefit from the New Directions program.
Last year the program enrolled 34 participants, nearly three times the 13 who signed up during its 2007 inaugural year.
The program prides itself on individual attention and personal counseling and will preserve that emphasis by limiting the size of its sessions.
“The success of New Directions this year continues to demonstrate the need for it now more than ever,” said Amy Gewirtz , Esq., director of the program, Westchester Women’s Bar Association board member and co-chair of their Placement Committee. The association helped create the program and remains an integral partner.
Gewirtz added: “In these troubling economic times, people are looking to reinvent themselves in a new career or are thinking of returning to work after being out of the workforce for many years. This can be a nerve-racking process. We are hoping to help as many attorneys as possible gain the skills and confidence they need to reach their goals.”
Interested attorneys must submit a resume and a personal statement setting forth the reasons they intend to return to legal practice and their career goals to Gewirtz, by email to
