New Rochelle, NY - The City of New Rochelle School District will receive a grant from the U.S. Department of Education for $1,476,784 to implement programs that will combat drugs, violence, and other unhealthy behaviors among students.
The grant will be used for programs to establish healthy behavior patters early, primarily at New Rochelle High School. The school district will also work with outside organizations to develop initiatives to reduce violence and promote healthy activities.
“Prevention and intervention services for students to effectively combat the pressures of drugs, violence and anti-social behavior have never been more needed than they are in today's school environment,” said Superintendent Richard E. Organisciak. “To equip our students with the ability to make positive decisions, to act confidently and to engage in pro-social activities requires the combined forces of the family, the school, the community and our governmental allies. The Safe Schools/Healthy Student Grant holds out a tremendous opportunity for the New Rochelle community to make significant inroads on behalf of its most prized asset, its students.”
The purpose of the Safe Schools/Healthy Students Grant Program is to provide students, schools, and communities the benefit of enhanced comprehensive educational mental health, social services, law enforcement, and juvenile justice system services. These services can promote the development of healthy children and prevent violence and alcohol and other drug abuse.
