Westchester Schools & Education NewsMt. Vernon, NY - The Mount Vernon Educational Foundation Inc., will be working with a coalition of coaches, school district personnel, elected officials, parents, and community members to raise the funds needed to continue the sports program for the 2008-09 school year.

Working together the coalition plans to raise the $950,000 needed to reinstate the Interscholastic Athletic Program for the Mount Vernon City School District.

The Mount Vernon Educational Foundation Inc., a nonprofit organization, will be the lead charity representing the school district to raise funds.

Operating under a contingency budget the district will not be able to continue the sports program. A goal of $300,000 by August 10, 2008 has been set to ensure fall sports will take place. The coalition will hold a number of events this summer focused on raising money for school sports.

The coalition includes members of “Save Our Sports,” a committee formed by Mayor Clinton Young and T.E.A.M (Together Everyone Achieves Miracles) Mount Vernon, which includes school district representatives, community members, parents, elected officials and others.

Supporters can help by making a tax-deductible contribution to the Mount Vernon Educational Foundation Inc., Attn: Ronnie Cox, President, Post Office Box 476, Fleetwood Station, Mount Vernon, NY 10552.

Please mark “Sports” in the memo section of your check or money order.

Together, the coalition hopes to keep athletics an option for our students and keep Knight Pride alive.

These kids represent everybody's future; not just their own. Providing sports helps keep kids away from drugs, crime and keeps them off the streets. Every citizen benefits when these kids are given opportunities. Don't let their dreams die so young. Save Our Sports!
