Dobbs Ferry, NY - Mercy College announced that on September 1, 2008, the academic divisions of the College will be reorganized into four schools: Education, Business, Health and Natural Sciences, and Arts and Sciences.
The decision to move to a schools-based structure was undertaken after careful analysis and consideration over a two-year period, during which it was determined that the new structure would most accurately reflect the breadth and complexity of the College, would be the appropriate structure to administer academic life at the institution, and would not affect Mercy’s net costs or the degrees offered.
“I have looked carefully at every element of a potential move to schools, including the financials, the input received from the Schools Task Force’s work over two academic years, the minutes of divisional meetings held during January 2008, and the vote of faculty,” said Mercy College President Louise H. Feroe. “I have heard and carefully considered all of this input and am convinced that a move to schools is ultimately the right decision for Mercy College.”
To facilitate the transformation while national searches for deans are undertaken, interim deans have been appointed for one year. Associate Professor Andrew Peiser (Education), Associate Professor Wayne Cioffari (Business), Professor Patricia Chute (Natural and Health Sciences), and Professor Ann Grow (Arts and Sciences) have each accepted the position of interim dean for the coming year. These individuals are committed to providing their faculty and students with the stability and professional leadership necessary during an interim period, and their taking on interim roles will ensure vital continuity for the College’s students and will help the Mercy community work together to effectively transition into a solid schools structure.
