Westchester School & Education NewsDobbs Ferry, NY - The Mercy College Board of Trustees by unanimous vote has elected Dr. Kimberly R. Cline the tenth President of Mercy College.

Currently Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer of the State University of New York, Dr. Cline will join Mercy College as President-elect on April 1, 2008, and become President on July 1, 2008.

The College’s Board voted to appoint Dr. Cline at a meeting on Thursday, January 31, 2008. In making the announcement, Board Chairman Richard E. French, Jr., said, “Dr. Cline’s achievements at SUNY, Hofstra University, and Seton Hall University make her the right president to lead Mercy College. I am confident she will work collaboratively with the faculty, staff, and students to enhance the stature of Mercy College.”

“Dr. Cline has both solid campus and system experience. She also served as Acting President of SUNY’s Empire State College. Her educational credentials, coupled with her experience in both public and private higher education make her a natural choice for Mercy College’s next president,” added Joseph P. Carlucci, Board member and Chair of Mercy’s presidential search.

“At SUNY, Dr. Cline’s performance was praised by presidents, legislators, and her colleagues,” stated John Ryan, former SUNY Chancellor. “She is an extremely competent professional with the ability to build outstanding collaborations. She will serve Mercy College well as president.”

As Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer of SUNY, Dr. Cline has been responsible for all financial and administrative functions and oversees SUNY’s $10 billion budget, which supports 64 campuses throughout the state. She also serves on SUNY’s Faculty Senate as a member of the Executive Board.  Previously she served SUNY at Maritime College as Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief of Staff, where she was instrumental in doubling enrollment and balancing a 20 percent deficit spending budget.

Prior to joining SUNY, Dr. Cline worked as Vice President for Finance and Administration at Seton Hall University and as University Attorney, Assistant Treasurer, and Assistant Vice President for Business Affairs at Hofstra University. She also served as a faculty member teaching business law in the School of Business.

Dr. Cline earned a B.S. in industrial relations at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1980.  She subsequently earned a Master in Business Administration, a Juris Doctor degree, and a Doctor of Educational Administration at Hofstra University.

Dr. Cline expressed her enthusiasm about the college she soon will be heading, saying, “I am grateful to the Board of Trustees of Mercy College for this vote of confidence, and I look forward to working collaboratively with the outstanding Mercy faculty and other campus stakeholders.  Mercy’s mission and commitment to access for students will continue to be at the forefront of our work.”

Dr. Cline will replace Dr. Louise H. Feroe, who on July 1 will assume the position of Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs for the Connecticut State University System, where she will provide leadership in the development of educational mission, policy, operating objectives, and programs for the System, which encompasses the four State Universities throughout Connecticut and serves about 36,000 students.

Mercy College is a private, nonprofit institution founded in New York in 1950. The College provides motivated students with the opportunity to earn undergraduate and graduate degrees in business, social sciences, health sciences, education, computer sciences, and the liberal arts.  An engaging and personalized learning experience is offered at five campuses, the main campus in Dobbs Ferry and other locations in the Bronx, Manhattan, White Plains, and Yorktown.  Online degrees are also available.
