 Irvington, NY - The Irvington High School Debate Team participated in its first Mid-Hudson League tournament at Newburgh Free Academy on Dec. 15.
The team of Garreth Dottin and Eric Grossfeld placed first in Public Forum Debate. Grossfeld received a first-place medal for having the most speaker points in the competition out of 8 speakers overall.
The team of Daniel Zelliger and Nathan Struth also competed in this competition.
Ten students are members of the team that is coached by Terence McArdle (Coach) and Jen McArdle (Assistant Coach). Mid-Hudson League. They are Eric Grossfeld, Garreth Dottin, Alexandra Cozell, Daniel Zelliger, Nathan Struth, Ryan Blanco, Ana Talarico, Kaivan Shroff, Naomi Saphra and Javier Anderson.
Irvington was among seven schools from the MHL that participated, including Byram Hills, Bronx HS of Science, Newburgh Free Academy, Hendrick Hudson, Lakeland and others from NYC and NJ.
“Because these are ‘friendly’ competitions among neighboring schools, they usually don’t tabulate total school points, but we were very satisfied with our students’ performance,” said Ms. McArdle.
