Valhalla, NY - County Executive Andy Spano will hold a public forum on a report by his Global Warming Task Force on Tuesday, March 11 at Westchester Community College.
The event in the Classroom Building on the college’s Valhalla campus will begin with a Zero Waste Café reception from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. From 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., the County Executive and members of the task force will present details of Westchester’s Global Warming Action Plan, and will solicit feedback from the public.
For more than a year, the task force, comprised of approximately one hundred professionals, has been developing a far-reaching environmental action plan for the county. The detailed short-term and long-term recommendations on how businesses, governments, schools, and households can help to reduce global warming was first presented at Manhattanville College earlier this week. The public is invited to speak about the plan at Westchester Community College on March 11.
Prior to the presentation and feedback from the public, the Zero Waste Café reception will be held, providing food and drinks to visitors. The college’s food service department is working with Neil Cutler of the Synergis – Zero Waste Café Group on the Café, which will use a very small amount of manufactured materials, resulting in a minimal amount of waste.
Earlier this year, Westchester Community College students and faculty participated in what was billed as one of the nation’s largest teach-ins in history. Nearly 2,000 campuses across the country focused on global warming education during the Focus the Nation (http://focusthenation.org) event, an unprecedented educational initiative on global warming solutions for America. The goal of this day of workshops and lectures was intended to help prepare students to become leaders in the largest civilizational challenge any generation has faced.
