Rye, NY - Twenty-six students, including nine high school graduates from the Class of 2009, fifteen who are already in college and two pursuing graduate degrees were the recipients of Academic Achievement Awards from the Sterling Park Residents Association at The Osborn.
The student recipients are children and grandchildren of employees of The Osborn from a variety of departments from Nursing, Dining, Osborn Home Care, Facilities, Finance, Environmental Services, and Housekeeping. The awards are from a fund to which Residents contribute voluntarily which is then divided among the students. To be considered, the student must be continuing in an educational program after high school which may be a college or university or a trade school.
Mrs. Sylvia Greenberg of the Academic Achievement Awards Committee spoke at the meeting and presented the awards to the student. She remarked that “Education is very dear to all of us. We’re all grandparents and have a keen interest in the education of young people. I’m happy to say that from our review of the students’ applications, it’s clear that the world is in very good hands with the next generation.”
Residents of Sterling Park care deeply about education. This marks the sixth year that Residents of Sterling Park, the independent living program at The Osborn Retirement Community, have organized and made personal contributions to fund the awards. Like so many of their generation education provided the path to their careers and enabled them to buy homes in this area and raise their families here.
