New York, NY - Fordham University received two awards from the Westchester County Chapter of the Building Owners and Managers Association: The Hall of Honor Award, for the University’s support and encouragement of the economic growth of Westchester County; and The Office Building of the Year Award, for the Fordham Westchester campus at 400 Westchester Ave. in West Harrison, N.Y.
The awards will be presented at the BOMA Awards Dinner on April 30 in Tarrytown, N.Y. Brian Byrne, Ph.D., vice president of administration for Fordham’s Lincoln Center campus, will accept the Hall of Honor award on behalf of the University. Fordham will share the TOBY Award, which recognizes excellence in building management, operational efficiency, emergency planning and community impact, with GHP Office Realty and Benerofe Properties.
Opened in September 2008, Fordham Westchester is a three-story, 62,500-square-foot building set on 32 landscaped acres. The campus is home to adult undergraduate programs, as well as master’s degree programs in business administration, education, religion and religious education, and social service.
The building was judged in multiple categories. Judges’ comments included: “New, fresh campus/building and state of the art technology will attract students as well as benefit the community of Westchester;” “Recent renovations/construction has yielded a gorgeous and state of the art facility for Fordham;” and, “This recently renovated facility is a winner!”
“It has been a wonderful first year for our students, faculty and staff at our new campus,” said Ron Jacobson, Ph.D., executive director of academic programs, Fordham Westchester. “This award further recognizes Fordham’s continuing contributions to higher education and quality of life in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Fairfield counties.”
“We are delighted to help Fordham find a central location and to renew its long-term commitment to remaining in Westchester County,” said James Houlihan, principal of GHP Office Properties.
Renovations incorporated substantial green building techniques, including a large central courtyard at the heart of the facility. The building includes 26 renovated classrooms with technological amenities such as “smart boards,” teleconferencing capabilities and newly installed seating and learning areas. The surrounding campus, nestled in a scenic wooded enclave, features a stream and pond.
The Cardarelli Design Group was the architect for GHP Office Realty and Benerofe Properties (BGHP, LLLC). Kouzmanoff Bainton of New York were the architects for Fordham. C.W. Brown Inc. was the general contractor for BGHP, LLC and Fordham.
