Tarrytown, NY - The twelfth annual Affordable Housing Expo will be held Saturday, March 8, 2008 at the Westchester County Center, Tarrytown Road and Central Avenue, in White Plains from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The Expo is directed toward first time homebuyers and those experiencing difficulties with mortgage payments, and will feature exhibits from vendors as well as workshops covering the following topics:
· How to Qualify for a Mortgage
· Credit and Mortgage Counseling Programs
· Supporting and Finding Affordable Housing in Your Communities
· Special Incentives for First Time Homebuyers; and
· How to Maintain and Keep Your Home
The Expo is particularly timely as many first time home buyers are priced out of the costly Westchester housing market, and the region has seen an increase in foreclosed homes due to the sub-prime lending crisis. The downturn in the national housing market has yet to impact Westchester, with the median single-family home price increasing by 1.6% from $630,000 in the fourth quarter in 2006 to $640,000 in the fourth quarter in 2007.
The Expo is sponsored by the Westchester Interfaith Housing Corp. in cooperation with Housing Action Council and Westchester Residential Opportunities, two leading not-for-profit home ownership counseling agencies in the county.
“We are pleased to once again co-sponsor this important event, and offer first-time homebuyers valuable information and services as they seek to enter the housing market. It is also particularly important, in this time of rising foreclosures due to risky sub-prime lending, that homeowners are aware of the resources available in their communities to help them,” said Rose Noonan, Executive Director of the Housing Action Council.
“Bringing together affordable housing exhibits and workshops in one place provides first time homebuyers with an invaluable resource. This year, we are expanding the workshops to address the sub-prime mortgage crisis, and hope to reach families who are experiencing difficulty making mortgage payments and provide them with the appropriate assistance”, said Geoffrey Anderson, Executive Director of Westchester Residential Opportunities.
The event is financially supported by private, non-profit and government institutions including the Chase Bank, HSBC, Citibank, Wachovia, Washington Mutual Home Loans, M & T Bank, Westchester County Board of Realtors, Westchester County and The Business Council of Westchester.
