White Plains, NY - More than 140 emergency medical services personnel who either helped save a life or performed other meritorious duties this past year will be honored Aug. 28 at a special ceremony at Playland.
The event, Regional EMS Appreciation Day, will take place beginning at 7 p.m. at the picnic pavilion. Honorees include members of the Westchester County Department of Emergency Services, as well as personnel fro EMS, fire and police departments throughout Westchester. In addition a nurse, students and lifeguards will be honored for their service. Some of those whose lives were saved are expected to be present as well.
Awards will be presented by Dan Blum, chairperson of the Westchester Regional EMS Council (WREMSCO) with the assistance of Chris Kalish, chairperson of the Public Information and Education Committee. The awards include:

The honoree’s come from: Emergency Medical Services (Westchester, Empress, Port Chester, Rye, Rye Brook, Greenwich, Harrison, Mamaroneck); Police Departments (Greenburgh, Yonkers, Bedford); Fire Departments (Hastings, Armonk, Larchmont, Port Chester); ambulance corps ( Irvington, Mohegan, Tarrytown, Pleasantville, Mamaroneck, Transcare, Scarsdale, Eastchester); and Westchester County 60 Control.
WREMSCO, one of 18 EMS regions in New York, sponsors the awards ceremony. Regional EMS councils are provided for in NYS Public Health Law to work in conjunction with the New York State EMS Council and the New York State Department of Health Bureau of EMS. The Westchester EMS Region represents more than 70 ambulance and first response agencies, 11 emergency receiving hospitals and more than 2000 paramedics and basic life support personnel.
