White Plains, NY - Rye Playland doesn’t officially open until May 10 but the public will get a sneak-preview a week earlier at this year’s Mayfair celebration.
Playland will open for the fundraiser on Saturday, May 3 from 10am – 6pm (Rain date is Sunday, May 4 from 12 pm to 6 pm). The event will benefit Sound Shore Medical Center (SSMC), Westchester Medical Center (WMC) and White Plains Hospital Center (WPHC).
Playland will be operational with many amusement park rides and Kiddyland open for business on May 3. The three hospitals will be on hand to provide free health screenings and information, including many geared for children such as, healthy eating, bike helmet safety, injury prevention information as well as cholesterol and blood pressure testing for adults. In addition to the park fun, there will be entertainment and special guests including a visit by Dr. Ted E. Bear.
New this year is a plant and bake sale, with goods donated by local nurseries and bakeries. In addition, outside vendors will set up booths to provide unique shopping opportunities just in time for Mother’s Day. To become a vendor at Mayfair, call (914) 365-3468.
Mayfair began 38 years ago as a benefit for United Hospital. When the Port Chester hospital closed in 2005, WPHC, SSMC and WMC teamed up to continue the tradition. A portion of the day’s parking, Fun Card and Fun Band revenue will be distributed amongst the three hospitals. A $20 Fun Card has 20 points plus one free ride, and a $30 Fun Card has 30 points plus two free rides. Rides are 3-4 points.
Fun Cards purchased in 2008 can also be used to purchase food at the park’s various food stands, and may be used throughout the entire Playland Park season. To purchase advance Fun Cards or for more information about the event call Sound Shore Medical Center at (914) 365-3755, Westchester Medical Center, at (914) 493-8029 or White Plains Hospital Center at (914) 681-1040.
