White Plains, NY - The Westchester County Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) has announce a three-year, $10 million campaign, raising funds to support cutting-edge research toward a cure for Type 1 diabetes, a life-threatening disease affecting more than 6,000 Westchester children and adults.
The campaign kick-off will occur at a research dinner at Trump National Golf Club, entitled “Do Zebrafish Hold the Key to a Cure for Diabetes?” Keynote speaker for the event will be Dr. Michael Parsons of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, whose study of beta cell regeneration in zebrafish will be funded by JDRF Westchester with monies raised at its 2008 Imagination Ball. Though the field barely existed five years ago, beta cell regeneration has become one of the fastest-growing and most promising areas of JDRF scientific research. Once all necessary funds are raised, Dr. Parson’s project will be named the “Friends of JDRF Westchester Research Grant.”
About JDRF: The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Since its founding in 1970 by parents of children with type 1 diabetes, JDRF has awarded more than $1 billion to diabetes research, including more than $137 million in FY2007.
