 White Plains, NY - White Plains Hospital Center (WPHC) has installed a new state-of-the-art high definition “visualization system” in its operating rooms.
The system includes upgraded cameras, monitors, light sources and scopes which are now used in minimally invasive orthopedic, general, and gynecological surgical procedures.
The new 1188 HD Digital Capture System, manufactured by the endoscopy division of Stryker Corporation, produces images that are twice the quality of the image on a TV, providing the surgeon with an unparalleled and detailed clear view of the body’s internal organs and structures. These images are displayed on LCD monitors in the operating room.
“The high definition video platform brings an unprecedented level of resolution and visual accuracy to the operating room,” explained Rick Weinstein, MD, chief of sports medicine at White Plains Hospital Center’s Westchester Orthopaedic Institute. “The first part of any treatment is to find out what’s wrong and to be able to see it better,” he said. In orthopedics, HD technology is used in minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery of the knee, shoulder, ankle, elbow and wrist.
Benefits for patients include quicker and more accurate surgical procedures and less time spent under anesthesia. “This is the most current and best technology out there for arthroscopic surgery and greatly enhances our performance in the operating room,” said Dr. Weinstein.
