 Sleepy Hollow, NY - Phelps Memorial Hospital Center's Healthy Life series continues to offer the community a wide range of programs on health-related subjects, as well as numerous health screenings and support groups.
All events take place on the Phelps campus, 701 North Broadway in Sleepy Hollow, unless otherwise noted.
The Phelps Healthy Life Calendar for September follows:
Wednesday, September 3, 6:30-8 p.m.: Stroke Support Group. Meeting the first Wednesday of each month, Stroke Support Group meetings combine support and education, featuring speakers who address topics of interest to stroke survivors, their families, friends and caregivers. Meets in the Walkway Conference Room at Phelps. Call 914-366-3397 for information.
Thursdays, September 4 and 18, 2 to 3:30 p.m.: Drop-in Bereavement Support Group. A drop-in group meeting the first and third Thursdays of the month for adults struggling with the loss of a loved one. The group is led by Bess Steiger, Bereavement Coordinator, and meets in the James House at Phelps. Suggested donation is $5 per session. Call 914-366-3325 for information.
Wednesdays, September 3 and 17, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.: Blood Pressure Screenings. Free blood pressure screenings are offered the first and third Wednesdays of every month. Call 914-366-3220 to schedule an appointment.
September 8, 15, 16, 22, 25, and October 2, 3, and 6: Prostate Screenings. One of the most common forms of cancer in men, when detected early prostate cancer can be effectively treated and cured. These free prostate screenings are conducted by urologists Jack Hershman, MD, and Arno Housman, MD, in PromptCare (next to the Emergency Department). Call 914-366-3220 to schedule an appointment.
September 15, 16, 17, and 18: Hearing Screenings. These free hearing screenings will help participants determine if a complete diagnostic test is called for. Conducted by Susan D. Reilly, MS, CCC-A at the Donald R. Reed Speech & Hearing Center at Phelps, 777 N. Broadway, Suite 303. Call 914-366-3010 to schedule an appointment.
Tuesday, September 16, 6 p.m.: Better Breathers Club - Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group. Respiratory therapist Susan DiFabio will speak about pulmonary fibrosis in the Phelps Hospital Pulmonary Gym. Call 914-366-3712 to register.
