White Plains, NY - NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital’s Westchester Division will hold free screenings for depression on Friday, October 10th from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. in the Hospital’s Center Building, Conference Room B, at 21 Bloomingdale Road, White Plains.
The confidential screenings, part of the National Depression Screening Day, are open to the public at no charge. Participants may walk in at any time without pre-registering, or call for an appointment at (914) 997-5779.
Screening participants will hear an educational presentation, have an opportunity to take a self-test and meet individually with a mental health professional for a brief interview. Referrals for treatment will be offered, if necessary.
Common symptoms of depression include persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness and helplessness, difficulty in sleeping, changes in appetite, and a lack of pleasure in activities that were once enjoyable. Depression may also be characterized by thoughts of death and suicide. It is a diagnosable illness that can be treated.
