Valhalla, NY - Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center has enhanced its already impressive staff of clinicians with the addition of two pediatric neurosurgeons, each of whom will act as Co-Chiefs of the hospital’s Pediatric Neurosurgery division.

Avinash Mohan and Michael Tobias to the clinical team of Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center underscores our commitment to providing the most comprehensive advanced care for children in the Hudson Valley,” explained Michael Gewitz, M.D., Director and Physician-in-Chief, Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center. “Both are gifted surgeons who treat their patients with compassion. They will enhance the service we provide to children of all ages with disorders and malfunctions of the brain, spine, spinal cord and peripheral nerves.”
In addition to their patient work, Drs. Mohan and Tobias will strengthen relationships with physicians in the Hudson Valley as Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center continues to grow and expand to better meet the needs of children and families from the region and beyond.
Avinash Mohan, M.D., Co-Chief, Pediatric Neurosurgery, Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center, received his undergraduate degree with honors from The Johns Hopkins University and his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Mohan completed his internship and residency in neurosurgery at New York Medical College, during which time he served for one year as a Research Fellow at the Skirball Research Institute, New York University School of Medicine. He then did his fellowship in Pediatric Neurosurgery at Children’s Memorial Hospital, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago, IL. Dr. Mohan has already co-authored numerous academic publications.
Michael Tobias, M.D., Co-Chief, Pediatric Neurosurgery, Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center, received both his undergraduate degree with honors and his medical degree with honors in neurosurgery and pediatric neurosurgery from Brown University. He completed his internship and residency in neurosurgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY, where he participated in the establishment of a new educational curriculum for resident training in pediatric neurosurgery. He then trained as a Pediatric Neurosurgery Fellow at LeBonheur Children’s Medical Center and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in the Department of Neurosurgery, University of Tennessee, Memphis, TN. Dr. Tobias has also co-authored multiple academic publications.
