White Plains, NY - The ABCs of Behavior Management for Children with ADHD will be the topic of the Dr. Samuel Kahn Memorial Lecture on Thursday, December 3 from 9:00 – 10:15 AM at WJCS, 845 North Broadway, White Plains, NY.
Elana G. Spira, PhD, will discuss why the symptoms of ADHD make it difficult for children to meet organizational, behavioral and social expectations in their home and school environments. Dr. Spira will discuss the basic principles of social learning theory, and provide a step-by-step guide to developing and implementing complementary home and school behavior management plans.
Dr. Spira received a PhD in clinical psychology from Stony Brook University, where she developed a research program focusing on ADHD and emergent literacy/language and a clinical expertise in behavior therapy. She has published scholarly articles in the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, Developmental Psychology and the Journal of Literacy Research, and has presented her research at Society for Research in Child Development Biennial Meetings and National Head Start Research Conferences. She currently works at the NYU Child Study Center as a child behavior therapist in a treatment study targeting organizational skills deficits in school-aged children with ADHD and is an adjunct lecturer at the NYU Silver School of Social Work and on the adjunct faculty of the Psychology Department at Hofstra University.
